End of the giraffes

Finished for the second time. My son wanted me to put trees in the background but it wouldn't be in perspective so I kept true to the warm color scheme and just added a little grass on the ground around them. I think he will like this. I personally liked the minimal background before of just the shadows but it was his choice so I listened. My favorite is still the mother giraffe's face, it came out beautifully. It is hard to see here because of my camera, it isn't the best. I will have to scan it and post that one later. On to the next project! Let me know what you think.

Giraffe progress

Slowly making progress. Been a little tired lately at night between potty training, getting ready for the holidays and homschooling that drawing at night is almost impossible. I start to think that this is looking terrible so I stop and take a step back and realize that it is coming along better than I think.

Colored pencil Giraffes

Giraffes are my oldest son's favorite animal and he has asked me to do this for him. So glad he did, drawings of animals is one of my favorite things to do. This one is fitting for him since he is a mama's boy, okay, all of my boys are, but Jack was the first so this is for him.

Sunflowers are finished!

Finished! The quality of the picture isn't as good as the drawing though. Just hope the person who gets this likes it. I am definitely going to keep working with colored pencil though.

Continuing on with Sunflowers

The progress on this project is coming along faster than I had expected. And it is turning out nicer as well. I added blue to the background since it is the recipients favorite color and it adds a nice compliment to the orange in the flowers. This is one of my favorite color combinations, love it and cannot wait to finish!
Detail of the underside of the sunflower, it turned out nicely.
A closer look at the flower arrangement.

Sunflowers

I have fallen in love with my colored pencils again! This is yet another gift for someone and I have been hesitant to try using colored pencils since it has been at least 10 years since I last used them and I am glad I did, they are amazing and super easy to work with.

Look at the rich color these pencils produce! And I have had them for 17 years!

Full view, looks better here than up close while drawing, it is true what they say, take a step back every so often to take a better look.
 Love my Prismacolor pencils
Jack decided to sit and watch me draw instead of going outside to play. To help he sharpened my pencils for me and he did a great job.

Redo of an original

Time to compare the two. The top one is the most recent, I wish I had chosen better paper for it but it was just a study. The one on bottom I did in high school, so around 1997-98. This is of my Grandma Stephens back when she was 19. I love old photos and needed something to do at night. I did this one over too just to see how much my style has developed.

Grandma Stephens

A work in progress, sorry for the glares on it, took it late last night. This is a drawing of my grandma Stephens in pencil. I did a similar drawing in high school which I am looking for so I can compare the two. Maybe once this is finished I can put them side by side for comparison.

Cat drawing

Now offering to draw animals, pets, or portraits for anyone. $25 for an 8x10 on up to $75-100 for 16x24 (depending on the scale of the drawing and the amount of detail in the background). Contact me if you are interested. It is a great way to remember a beloved pet and it gives me a chance to draw something I love!

Copy of Flight by Rose Dall

This is a painting my husband started for his painting class last year and since he cringes each time he has to open a tube of oil paint I decided to finish this one for him. I love oils and working on this painting helped me learn a new style for painting oils. I still have a little more work to do on his clothes and her veil but overall I am proud of this copy. For me this particular painting holds a deeply spiritual meaning besides the story being depicted of Joseph and Mary fleeing their home with Jesus as a child to find safety in Egypt, to me it tells me to never get too comfortable because something is always bound to happen.

Buddy

Buddy the rabbit done in pencil for a friend. Loved this rabbit when he was alive so it was a pleasure drawing him.

In 2010 I took these at a Catholic church here in town while my husband was shooting his own pics for his final. He ended up using his own but almost used mine instead.

A great horned owl done in pencil for a friend. Loved the detail of the owl's face looking right at me. Pencil is by far my favorite medium to work with.

Detail of the talons, it was lots of fun to draw them.
